Tribal painting, ethnically more famous as ‘idital’ painting of the soura tribe, reflects the elemental world vis-à-vis the toiling man of the mundane plane in all its trials and tribulations. Evolved from esoteric beliefs, the tribal painting uses right-angled triangles to portray flora and fauna cast in different moods and emotions. The texture and structure of the paintings blends innovatively to radiate a flavour of its own. Normally painted on tussar silk or black cloth, gradually the drawing canvas moved on to coconut and arecanut.
